PGT Windows FAQ

Find our PGT windows FAQ below. Here we’ll look at all of the common questions we get about PGT windows. If you have a question that isn’t answered we invite you to post a comment at the bottom to ask your question. We read all of the comments and will be happy to answer your question for everyone to see.

Where are PGT windows made?

PGT windows are made in North Venice, FL and are distributed all over Florida and the Southeast US.

Does PGT own other window brands?

Yes. PGT now owns several other window brands. They include:

Anlin Windows & Doors
CGI
PGT Custom Windows + Doors
WinDoor
Western Window Systems
Eze-Breeze
CGI Commercial
Eco Window Systems

PGT makes a variety of windows including residential and commercial options. They also make impact windows for hurricane areas and more traditional window styles.

What are PGT windows made of?

Vinyl and aluminum. PGT makes both vinyl and aluminum windows. Typically vinyl windows are more popular as they’re durable, energy efficiency and cost effective.

Are PGT windows good?

PGT says the windows are great, but we do see a lot of unhappy customers on the site. It’s possible that the customers we see writing in with problems with their PGT windows are just the squeaky wheels, but it does seem to be a pattern. As PGT has consolidated the window industry in Florida there are fewer and fewer options available for customers in this region.

Why do people complain about PGT windows?

The majority of the complaints we see relate to quality issues and challenges getting warranty issues resolved. We’ve seen people complaining about windows showing up defective from the plant. Then these folks seems to be having a challenging time getting the issues resolved.

Are PGT windows energy efficient?

Yes, but not more efficient than most other windows. Essentially all window manufacturers are playing with the same deck of cards. They all have access to the same glass, vinyl and components to design a window so there isn’t really any huge difference in efficiency between manufacturers. There are different packages and options available so you can pick the option that works best for your home.

Are PGT windows impact resistant?

Yes, PGT does offer both impact resistant windows and regular residential windows that are not impact windows. Impact windows are required in many areas in Florida and Texas. Sometimes people pick impact windows when they’re not required, but the cost can be substantial so they’re typically not used when not required by building codes.

How long does it take to get PGT windows?

All PGT windows will be custom made so they’ll take time to be custom made and delivered for installation. Extreme demand and supply chain issues have caused additional delays lately. We’ve heard of customers waiting 10 weeks to several months for their new windows to arrive. Find more info on how long it takes to get windows in 2022 here.

How much should PGT windows cost?

Pricing for replacement windows will vary quite a lot based on the options you pick, the nature of the installation and the amount of commission the salesman wants to make. Often times window salespeople have a lot of discretion when it comes to pricing projects and that can make the process difficult for the customer. Find more info on 2022 replacement window prices here.

Where can you buy PGT windows?

PGT windows are available through many dealers in Florida and the surrounding area. In fact, we’ve heard from customers who are frustrated that PGT windows seem to be the only game in town. These customers feel like every dealer they talk to is selling the same PGT windows so it’s hard for them to get a comparison. In fact, there are many other options available, but it is true that PGT windows has a very high share of the residential window market in Florida.

Pella Windows FAQ

Find our Pella windows FAQ below. Here we’ll look at all of the common questions we get about Pella windows. If you have a question that isn’t answered we invite you to post a comment at the bottom to ask your question. We read all of the comments and will be happy to answer your question for everyone to see.

Was Pella in a class-action lawsuit?

Yes. Pella settled a class action lawsuit for $26 million in 2018 relating to leaking windows causing damage to homes. The original settlement was $90 million so it looks like Pella’s lawyers earned their money. This is a pretty substantial settlement which indicates that they may not have wanted to go to trial for fear that it could have been worse.

If the windows were installed within 15 years customers were eligible to receive the an amount equaling the total amount of their costs for the new window, installation, finish, and repairs. If the damage occurred 15 years or more after the windows were installed, consumers will receive compensation worth 25 percent of that amount. That’s a big deal.

Do Pella windows leak?

Since Pella recently settled a class action lawsuit relating to leaking windows it sounds like Pella windows used to leak. It’s pretty likely that they’ve fixed the issues relating to leaking windows as they certainly don’t want to deal with another lawsuit.

How well do Pella windows hold up?

As well as any other new construction window manufacturer. New construction windows are generally sold to builders and builders are cheap. That means manufacturers need to make cheap windows in order to sell them. That pushes quality down and it keeps the replacement window business moving because people will want to replace their cheap windows in 8-10 years. That’s not great for the customers, but it’s really caused by builders not wanting to spend money on quality products. Find more window info here.

What are Pella windows made of?

Pella makes wood, vinyl and fiberglass windows. They also make both new construction and replacement windows. Pella is one of the largest window manufacturers in the country so they make a lot of options.

Do people like Pella windows?

Some people do like Pella windows. That sentiment was threatened by the class action lawsuit that Pella settled relating to leaking windows. Overall Pella makes fine products, but their lower end lines will leave a lot to be desired.

Are Pella windows better than Andersen windows?

No. Both Pella and Andersen make a wide range of options so there isn’t one comparison. A cheap Pella window won’t be as nice as a high end Andersen window and vice versa. To pick a window option it’s helpful to start by defining the scope of your window project. Are you looking for wood or vinyl or something in between? Do you want an fancy and expensive option or a low cost solution or something in between? These questions will help you narrow your focus as there are a lot of window manufacturers out there.

Are Pella windows better than Marvin windows?

No. Both Pella and Marvin make a wide range of window options. In my experience Marvin is more focused on quality and Pella is more focused on selling new construction windows to builders. This generally means that the Pella windows I’ve dealt with have not been the nicest and I would recommend looking for another option.

Is the Pella window warranty any good?

Yes, the Pella window warranty is decent for a larger manufacturer. You’ll want to review both the warranty and our review of the Pella window warranty to get a better idea of what you’re in for. There are limitations to be aware of that can come as a surprise to someone who didn’t understand the warranty when they made their original purchase.

Where can you buy Pella windows?

You can buy some Pella windows at Lowes stores and others are available through Pella dealers or at lumber yards. Pella makes a wide range of choices and different models will be available through different distribution channels.

How long does it take to get Pella windows?

Some Pella windows may be in stock at certain locations for immediate pickup. Stock windows and stock sizes are one advantage of new construction windows. If you’re looking for replacement windows it’s almost always better to order custom sizes and they can take many weeks to arrive. Find more info about how long it takes to get windows in 2022 here.

How much should Pella windows cost?

Pella windows will vary quite it bit in price. The lower end vinyl windows can be very cheap, around $300. The higher end wood windows can cost upwards of $3000 each. You’ll want to define the scope of your project so you can narrow down your search before you get too into the weeds on pricing. Find info on replacement window prices in 2022 here.

Okna Windows FAQ

Find our Okna windows FAQ below. Here we’ll look at all of the common questions we get about Okna windows. If you have a question that isn’t answered we invite you to post a comment at the bottom to ask your question. We read all of the comments and will be happy to answer your question for everyone to see.

Does Okna own other window brands?

Yes. Okna also makes the HiMark and Starmark window lines. We have reviews and info on both of those brands linked above.

Are Okna windows good?

Yes. Okna windows are perfectly good. They are sometimes overpriced depending on the local dealer so that is something to watch out for. There is typically only one or two companies in any town that sell Okna windows. If the local company in your area isn’t great or uses some of the sales tactics we talk about here you’ll be better off finding another option. There is no need to deal with a company that doesn’t treat you well just to get these windows.

What is the best Okna window model?

Okna makes several window models. Popular options include the Okna 500 and Okna 800 models. The Okna 600 model is probably one of the nicer of the bunch. All Okna window dealers will not have access to all windows as their distribution is very limited. If you’re considering purchasing Okna windows I would fist find a dealer you’re comfortable with. There’s no need to fall in love with any particular window model before you know if the company offering that model in your area is any good.

Is the Okna window warranty any good?

It’s pretty typical. Okna offers a lifetime warranty on their windows which is what you’ll get from most window manufacturers. There are some limitations like stress cracks are only covered for the first year and internal blinds are only covered for 10 years. You should review the Okna warranty before making your purchase.

Why do people buy Okna windows?

Because the salesman told them to. Most people have never heard of Okna windows (or most other manufacturers) until they started shopping for new windows. Some of the companies selling Okna windows do a great job of explaining the features and benefits and that leads to more sales. At the end of the day Okna produces perfectly fine windows and there are many other window manufactures also producing very nice windows. You can find many more options here.

Do Okna windows up upgraded parts?

Yes. Okna windows use several upgraded parts that other manufacturers may not use. For example, they’ll use upgraded block and tackle balances that you’ll see in several other premium windows like Sunrise, Gentek, Preservation and more.

Using upgraded components in the windows is one way you can tell the manufacturer is trying to produce a quality product rather than a cheap option. There are many premium windows out there and you can find reviews and information here.

Is the Duralite spacer in Okna windows good?

Yes. The duralite spacer that is offered by Okna and many other companies is a perfectly good option. This is a non-metallic spacer that goes between the panes of glass. Ultimately, window salespeople will often try to distract you with stories about window parts like spacers. If you’re concerned about efficiency you should look at the efficiency ratings to see how well a window will perform. The proof is in the pudding, everything else is just story telling.

How long does it take to get Okna windows?

The time it takes to get custom made windows can vary quite a bit depending on the demand at any time. I’d expect 10-12 weeks to get your custom Okna windows and it can sometimes take longer. You should talk to your dealer about the current lead time to get an idea of what you should expect. You can find more info about how long it takes to get windows in 2022 here.

Are Okna windows energy efficient?

Yes. Okna offers only a few efficiency options. The options they do offer are perfectly nice and tend to be on the more efficient end of the spectrum. Ultimately all manufacturers are playing with the same deck of cards when it comes to efficiency options. Okna does a good job of maximizing the benefit they can get out of each component.

Are Okna windows too expensive?

Sometimes. Okna windows are sometimes sold by old fashioned window dealers who use all of the silly old fashioned window sales gimmicks. For example, if you hear a salesman telling you that you need to buy today to get the special sale you should look elsewhere. All companies selling Okna windows do not operate this way and some offer perfectly fair deals, but the high pressure type is out there as well.

Are Okna windows vinyl?

Yes. Okna manufacturers several lines of vinyl windows.

Where are Okna windows made?

Okna windows are made in Bristol, PA.

NT Windows FAQ

Find our NT windows FAQ below. Here we’ll look at all of the common questions we get about NT windows. If you have a question that isn’t answered we invite you to post a comment at the bottom to ask your question. We read all of the comments and will be happy to answer your question for everyone to see.

Are NT Windows good?

Yes. NT Windows are perfectly fine. There are inherent risks associated with any smaller manufacturer which is something we talk about quite a lot. As a result this is not a manufacturer that we would recommend. Find other replacement window reviews here.

How long does it take to get NT windows?

All NT windows will be custom made to order so it will take some time for your window order to be custom made and delivered. We would expect to see orders in 8 weeks or so. Keep in mind that demand can change throughout the year. Be sure to ask your salesman about expected timing for your order. You can find more info about how long it takes to get new windows in 2022 here.

Are NT windows energy efficient?

Yes. NT windows offers a range of efficiency options that are very similar to what you’ll find from most window manufacturers. There is nothing particularly unique about the efficiency of NT windows.

How much should NT windows cost?

The pricing for NT windows will vary quite a lot based on the options you pick, the nature of the installation and the salesperson. Many times in-home salespeople are paid on commission that goes up when the sale price goes up. This can be challenging for homeowners. See our section on common window sales tactics for more info on how some companies can operate.

Where are NT windows available?

NT windows are generally available in North Texas and the surrounding area. They are not distributed nationally like larger manufacturers.

Should you buy NT windows?

I wouldn’t. There’s nothing inherently wrong with these windows, but these little manufacturers are a risky bet. There’s no significant reason to take the gamble on the smaller producer so it’s always our advice to look for a larger and more well established manufacturer. With a larger manufacturer it’s more likely that they’ll be around for the long haul to handle any warranty issues.

Are there better options than NT windows?

Yes. In our experience the windows from NT are perfectly fine, but there are many other options that are also great. My company offers windows from a much larger manufacturer in the North Texas area and that might be an option to consider rather than taking the gamble on the smaller manufacturer.

Is the NT windows warranty any good?

The NT Windows warranty is decent but not as good as the warranty you’ll see from other companies. For example, NT windows says they offer a lifetime warranty that is transferable. While that’s true the devil is in the details when it comes to window warranties. For example, if you rent your house they only offer a 10 year warranty. The warranty is also only transferable in the first 10 years, after that you’re out of luck.
There are a few other warranty limitations to be aware of. For example, the warranty on exterior colors is only 15 years and glass breakage isn’t covered past 90 days unless your dealer buys the additional glass breakage warranty.

Where are NT windows made?

Fort Worth. NT Windows are made in Ft Worth and distributed in the surrounding area.

Who owns NT windows?

According to Linkedin, Ryon Ray is the president and CEO of NT windows.

What are NT windows made of?

NT windows makes both vinyl and aluminum windows. Vinyl windows have become the most popular window material by a wide margin. Most people pick vinyl windows because they are more durable, more efficient and more cost effective. There are specific circumstances when aluminum windows may be used, but they’re not nearly as popular as they were 20 years ago.

Northeast Building Products FAQ

Find our Northeast Building Products windows FAQ below. Here we’ll look at all of the common questions we get about Northeast Building Products windows. If you have a question that isn’t answered we invite you to post a comment at the bottom to ask your question. We read all of the comments and will be happy to answer your question for everyone to see.

Who owns Northeast Building Products?

Harvey Building Products owns Northeast Building Products. Harvey purchased Northeast in 2018 which continues a trend we’ve seen of consolidation of the smaller window manufacturers. Harvey also owns Soft-Lite windows.

Does Northeast make windows for Power Home Remodeling?

Yes. We have heard from readers that some Power salesmen have told them that Power “makes their own windows”. This is not true. Power Home Remodeling purchases windows from Northeast Building Products.

Are Northeast Building Products windows any good?

They’re perfectly fine but unremarkable. Northeast Building Products uses a range of features that are available to many or even most window manufacturers. The efficiency ratings are very comparable to ratings you’d see from many other manufacturers.

How much should windows from Northeast Building Products cost?

The pricing for windows from Northeast Building Products will vary greatly depending on the dealer who is selling you the windows. Some of the companies selling Northeast windows will use high pressure sales tactics to try to inflate the prices and then offer you a super special deal if you sign today. This is almost never a good deal. It is a strategy designed to separate you from your money. It is our advice to never buy from companies who use sales tactics like this.

What is the warranty on Northeast Building Products windows?

The warranty on windows from Northeast Building Products is decent, but it’s not as good as you’ll see from other manufacturers. For example, they only cover stress cracks in the glass for 90 days and there is no coverage at all for accidental glass breakage or labor. This can be a big issue if you have problems with your windows shortly after installation.

How long does it take to get windows from Northeast Building Products?

Most windows from Northeast Building Products are custom made so it will take time for the windows to be made and delivered for installation. We would expect to see these windows in 4 weeks or so but lead-times will vary throughout the year. You should ask your dealer about the current lead times if you’re thinking of buying these windows. You can find more info on how long it takes to get windows in 2022 here.

Does Power Home Remodeling make their own windows?

No. We’ve heard from customers that salesmen from Power Home Remodeling often claim that they make their own windows, but that is not true. Power sells windows from Northeast Building Products. These windows have perfectly normal ratings and you can typically find comparable options for a lower cost without the sales gimmicks.

Are Northeast Building Products windows expensive?

Yes. Windows from Northeast Building Products are often sold through high priced dealers. That means you’ll often hear about super special pricing that is only good today along with other popular window sales gimmicks.

The windows themselves are perfectly fine, but unremarkable. You can often find other options that will have similar performance for a much better price from a company that won’t try to manipulate you with sales gimmicks.

Are Northeast Building Products windows energy efficient?

Yes, but they’re not more efficient than options available from many other manufacturers. It’s been a little while since I was doing in-home sales, but I remember talking with customers who had received quotes for Northeast windows. The customers had often been told that these were super special windows that were head and shoulders better than anything else out there. That’s just not the case. Find more info on all replacement windows here.

What is sashlite and is it any good?

Sashlite was a strange spacer system used in some replacement windows. It was touted as being fantastic, but it was very problematic. Northeast Building Products used this spacer for some time, but it appears they have moved away from it. Another company, Accuweld, used the sashlite spacer for a time before they went bankrupt. If someone suggests a window with sashlite we would suggest looking elsewhere.

Milgard Windows FAQ

Find our Milgard windows FAQ below. Here we’ll look at all of the common questions we get about Milgard windows. If you have a question that isn’t answered we invite you to post a comment at the bottom to ask your question. We read all of the comments and will be happy to answer your question for everyone to see.

Did Milgard go out of business during covid?

No, but they permanently closed multiple production facilities. Milgard was purchased by low cost producer Mi windows in November 2019 and then in May of 2020 they permanently closed 2 US manufacturing plants in Aurora, CO and Grand Prairie, TX.

Milgard branded windows are no longer available in Texas.

What are Milgard windows made of?

Milgard makes vinyl, fiberglass and aluminum windows. Vinyl windows tend to be the most popular for a variety of reasons with fiberglass and aluminum making up a smaller share of the replacement window market.

Are Milgard windows for new construction or replacement?

Milgard was primarily known as a new construction window company, but they do also make remodeling products.

Are Milgard windows a good choice?

They’re not the best choice. Milgard windows tended to be a lower end product in the past. They were acquired by Mi windows in 2019 and Mi windows has also been known as a low end window manufacturer.

That doesn’t provide any indication that the products will become any better. For a higher end result you might want to look elsewhere.

Where are Milgard windows available?

Milgard windows are generally available in the western US, but not in Texas. Years ago Milgard tried to expand to the east but it appears that did not work. I remember when they had a plant in Fredericksburg, VA, but those days are long gone.

Since Milgard windows was purchased by Mi and some manufacturing has been consolidated it seems Milgard will just be another brand or product line offered by low cost producer Mi windows.

Why would someone pick Milgard windows?

Usually Milgard windows would be selected by someone looking for a low cost option or for a new construction window. New construction windows are generally cheap and not as nice as windows designed for the remodeling market.

This is because builders pick new construction windows and builders just want to save money. Remodeling windows are selected by people who are just buying windows so they’re more focused on quality. Manufacturers know this so they make new constitution windows cheaper, sacrificing quality, and they make replacement windows nicer.

Is the Milgard window warranty any good?

In general it’s positive that Milgard is now owned by Mi windows as that means the warranty is likely to hold up for a long time. One downside is that the Milgard window warranty can get a little complicated since the acquisition. There are different wararnties for the Tuscany and Trinsic series windows than for the other models. The warranty for all models was updated in October of 2021. You can find all of the Milgard window warranties here.

Who owns Milgard windows?

Milgard windows was purchased by low cost producer Mi windows in 2019. Within about 6 months Mi windows closed 2 of the former Milgard window manufacturing plants and eliminated distribution of Milgard windows to Texas. Find more replacement window info here.

Did Milgard windows get sold?

Yes. Milgard was purchased by Mi windows in 2019. Mi windows is known as a low cost and low quality producer of vinyl windows. In addition to Milgard, Mi windows also purchased Sunrise windows and they now offer windows all over the US.

Why can’t you get Milgard windows in Texas?

After Milgard windows was purchased by Mi windows they closed 2 of the Milgard manufacturing facilities. With the loss of those facilities the plan was to produce Milgard windows in the other Mi windows manufacturing facilities. The Milgard brand is still available in the western US except in Texas. Mi windows announced they would no longer offer Milgard branded in windows in The Lone Star State.

Mi Windows FAQ

Find our Mi windows FAQ below. Here we’ll look at all of the common questions we get about Mi windows. If you have a question that isn’t answered we invite you to post a comment at the bottom to ask your question. We read all of the comments and will be happy to answer your question for everyone to see.

Are Mi windows good?

No. Mi windows makes lower end vinyl windows that are not very nice. They don’t make excuses for that as their goal is to produce cheap windows. They succeed. These windows might make sense for a lower end rental house or a flip house but they would not be recommended for a house you’ll be living in or any nicer house at all. Find better window options here.

What are Mi windows made of?

Mi windows are vinyl windows. Some vinyl windows can be very nice and very energy efficient. That is not the case with Mi windows. These windows are not as efficient as other options and they’ll have higher (worse) air infiltration rates than many other options too. In general Mi windows are not recommended for most projects.

Does Mi windows make windows for Window World?

Yes. Window World offers windows from Mi windows in at least some markets. Historically Window World has been focused on offering the cheapest possible options and Mi windows is a good fit for that business model. Mi windows makes cheap windows that are not nearly as nice as windows you’ll see from other manufacturers. If your goal is a quality project that will last a very long time and windows that will perform very well you’ll probably want to look for a different option.

Are Mi windows cheap?

Yes. Mi windows will be some of the cheapest windows in the market. That’s typically not a great thing for most customers as you usually don’t want the cheapest possible product installed in your home.

The windows will be in the house for decades so it’s always our recommendation to look for a nicer solution. You’ll be dealing with the windows long after you’ve forgotten the cost so buying the cheapest possible windows is usually not the best idea. Find more info on the cost of windows in 2022 here.

Is the Mi windows warranty any good?

Not really. The windows from Mi windows are lower end windows so they’re not expected to hold up as well as a nicer choice. The warranty for Mi windows is not the best warranty you’ll find in the market and we’d suggest looking at another option so you’ll at least be able to understand the differences.

Are Mi windows considered low-end?

Yes. Mi windows makes lower end windows that are definitely not as nice as other options you’ll find in the market. Mi windows generally are priced lower than other options too so you can decide if the cost savings is worth the reduction in quality. In general we’ll recommend looking for a nicer window option because the windows will be in the house for a very long time.

Why would someone buy Mi windows?

They’re cheap. That’s really the only reason anyone would buy Mi windows. They just don’t make the nicest windows in the world and we recommend looking for a nicer option. I know the low price can be attractive but the windows will be in the house for decades. It’s always our recommendation to look for a nicer option that will hold up better and will be more efficient.

Does Mi windows own Sunrise windows?

Yes. Mi windows purchased Sunrise windows. This was an interesting development as Sunrise was generally more focused on quality and Mi was historically more focused on being cheap. It’s possible that they’re going to use Sunrise to try to capture more of the higher end window market. It’s also possible that they’re going to try to cut costs in the Sunrise window manufacturing which might make Sunrise windows a little less nice. Only time will tell.

How long does it take to get Mi windows?

Most Mi windows are custom made so it will take a little while for them to be ready to install. The exact lead time will depend on the options you pick and the demand at that time. We would expect to see Mi windows in 3-4 weeks after you placed the order. Be sure to ask your dealer or installer about the current lead-time when you place your order.

Where are Mi windows made?

Most Mi windows are made in Pennsylvania. Mi operates several manufacturing facilities to produce custom windows for the new construction and replacement window markets.

Marvin Windows FAQ

Find our Marvin windows FAQ below. Here we’ll look at all of the common questions we get about Marvin windows. If you have a question that isn’t answered we invite you to post a comment at the bottom to ask your question. We read all of the comments and will be happy to answer your question for everyone to see.

Are Marvin windows good?

Yes. Marvin windows are perfectly good. Marvin windows will be more expensive than many other choices so whether or not they’re a good value is a little more relative. The windows Marvin makes look beautiful. The downside is that they’re not as energy efficient as some other options and the warranty is shorter on Marvin windows than other brands.

If you’re comparing Marvin windows to a vinyl window option a nicer vinyl window will typically be more energy efficient and have a longer warranty than the Marvin window. If the look of the Marvin windows is not worth that trade off to you then you might want to look at other options. Find more options here.

Are Marvin windows better than Andersen windows?

No. Andersen and Marvin both make very nice windows that look great. They both have the same downsides when compared to vinyl windows and the same upside as well.

Marvin makes wood and fiberglass windows while Andersen makes wood and composite windows. All three materials will look beautiful. They also all cost quite a bit so these will be some of the more expensive windows in the market. The composite windows from Andersen are similar in efficiency and performance to the fiberglass windows from Marvin.

Find more info on all of the available window types and styles here.

Are Marvin windows better than Pella windows?

Yes. Pella windows recently settled a class action lawsuit relating to leaking windows and they’re generally not an option I would recommend. The various styles from Marvin will offer a higher end solution that would be preferable in a high-end home.

What is the best Marvin window?

The Marvin Ultimate is the top of the line Marvin window. These are wood windows that can have an optional aluminum cladding on the exterior.

What is the worst Marvin window?

The Marvin Essential, formerly the Marvin Infinity window, is the lower end option. If you’re going for a higher end window brand like Marvin it’s always my suggestion to get real wood, like you’ll find in the Ultimate line, vs imitation wood or fiberglass like you’ll find in the Essential line.

What’s the point of paying the premium for a beautiful window only to get imitation wood? I wouldn’t suggest it.

Is the Marvin window warranty any good?

The warranty from Marvin windows is decent, but certainly not as good as you’d see from many vinyl window brands. We write mostly about vinyl windows here and in comparison the Marvin window warranty is much shorter and more limited. It seems that wood and fiberglass windows aren’t expected to hold up as long as a quality vinyl window.

Should you buy Marvin windows?

When comparing Marvin windows to vinyl windows you’ll find that Marvin windows will have higher (worse) air infiltration rates meaning they’re less efficient. The Marvin windows will also cost quite a bit more.

For some people the high end look of the Marvin windows is worth that tradeoff. If you find yourself in that boat then Marvin windows might be the right product for you.

If not, then another option might be a better fit.

Are Marvin windows energy efficient?

No. When compared to other window styles Marvin windows are not that energy efficient. When compared to other wood or composite or fiberglass windows Marvin windows are pretty typical.

The sales pitch for Marvin windows has less to do with efficiency and more to do with the look and the style. For someone whose first priority is efficiency Marvin windows might not be the best choice. Other options will provide better efficiency ratings, often at a lower cost.

How long does it take to get Marvin windows?

Most Marvin windows are custom made so it will take time for the windows to be custom manufactured and delivered. The exact lead time depends on the model and options that you order. We would expect to see most Marvin window orders in 6-8 weeks but that can vary throughout the year.

You should ask your dealer or installer about the current lead-time when you place your order. You can find more info about how long it takes to get windows in 2022 here.

How much should Marvin windows cost?

The pricing for Marvin windows will vary a lot depending on the options you pick. You can see windows from $1200 to $4000 per window or more. A company like Marvin offers a very wide range of options so there are many factors that will impact the pricing. Find more info about window prices in 2022 here.

What are Marvin windows made of?

Marvin windows are made of wood or fiberglass. The wood windows are also available with an aluminum clad exterior for additional protection from the elements. If your house is in a historic district you’ll likely need an all wood option to maintain the historic wood exterior.

If you’re not in a historic area, the aluminum clad or fiberglass window is recommended to reduce maintenance and increase the longevity of the windows. Find many more window reviews and info here.

Are fiberglass windows better than wood windows?

No. Fiberglass windows are designed to look like wood windows and they can look very nice. Fiberglass windows are more expensive than the more popular vinyl windows, but they’re still imitation wood rather than real wood.

If you want the look of a wood window and you’re willing to accept the sacrifice of decreased efficiency and a shorter warranty then it makes more sense to get real wood windows rather than imitation wood fiberglass windows. Find detailed window reviews here.

Kensington HPP Windows FAQ

Find our Kensington HPP windows FAQ below. Here we’ll look at all of the common questions we get about Kensington HPP windows. If you have a question that isn’t answered we invite you to post a comment at the bottom to ask your question. We read all of the comments and will be happy to answer your question for everyone to see.

Is Kensington the same as Kensington HPP windows?

No. The old company called Kensington went out of business many years ago. Some of the management bought the assets out of bankruptcy, but they did not buy the liabilities. That means the old company called Kensington is gone and those old Kensington warranties are worthless.

The new company is called Kensington HPP and they very much want you to know that the two companies are different. Similar names, but different companies. Find reviews of Kensington and other window manufacturers here.

Are Kensington HPP windows any good?

Kensington HPP windows are perfectly fine but not particularly remarkable. The small manufacturers like this are inherently risky and I wouldn’t take the gamble of buying their products. This is made especially clear by the bankruptcy of the old company, Kensington. Everyone who bought Kensington windows was out of luck when they went out of business. All of those people now have no warranty.

Kensington HPP is a different company but the same risks remain. You can find similar windows from a more stable manufacturer and that’s what I would recommend.

Are Kensington HPP windows energy efficient?

Yes. Kensington HPP offers a range of efficiency options and they will generally offer choices that are as efficient as anything else you’ll see in the market. The most efficient product isn’t always the best choice as most customers will balance efficiency with cost to find a solution that makes sense for their project.

Why would anyone buy Kensington HPP windows?

I don’t know. The windows offered by Kensington HPP are perfectly nice, but I wouldn’t suggest taking the gamble on a small manufacturer like that. Especially since the last iteration of Kensington windows went bankrupt leaving all of their customers with no warranty.

I know the folks at Kensington HPP will be happy to tell you that they’re different and they’re super, but I just wouldn’t take the chance. You can find more replacement window reviews and info here.

Is the warranty on Kensington HPP windows any good?

The warranty from Kensington HPP is actually very strong. They have relatively few limitations. The screen frames are only covered for 1 year, the warranty is only transferable in the first 10 years and they do not cover labor for replacing any defective parts.

What does the HPP mean in Kensington HPP?

High Performance Products.

Will Kensington HPP honor Kensington window warranties?

No. The old company called Kensington is bankrupt and out of business. The new company, called Kensington HPP does have the ability to make replacement parts. Readers of the site have told us that Kensington HPP has made replacement parts for them for a cost.

It’s better to be able to get the parts, even if you need to pay for them, than to not be able to get them at all. If you have a problem with your older Kensington windows you should contact Kensington HPP to see if they can help you order replacement parts.

How long does it take to get Kensington HPP windows?

Kensington HPP windows are all custom made so it will take time to get your new windows. The exact time can vary based on the options you’ve picked and the demand at that time. We would expect orders to take 8-10 weeks to arrive after you’ve placed your order. You should check with with dealer on exact timing when you’re ready to place your order. You can find more info on how long it takes to get new windows in 2022 here.

How much should Kensington HPP windows cost?

Windows from Kensington HPP will vary in cost quite a lot. These windows are often sold by some of the higher priced companies in any area so you’re likely to see higher than average prices.

The windows are custom made so the pricing will depend in part on what you order. If you order more basic options the prices will be lower and if you order fancier options like the heat mirror glass the price will be higher. Find more info on 2022 replacement window prices here.

Does Kensington HPP use Heat Mirror glass?

Heat Mirror glass is an option in the Quantum 2 windows from Kensington HPP. In my opinion heat mirror isn’t really any better than regular triple pane glass so it’s a lot of sales pitch for little benefit. You’re likely to find a better value with a triple pane window.

Is Heat Mirror glass good?

In the past heat mirror glass had warranty issues, but they say that is now fixed and we don’t have any reason to believe otherwise. The efficiency ratings for heat mirror glass are generally similar to the ratings you’ll see on triple pane windows from many manufacturers. In my opinion heat mirror glass is not with the cost.

Marvin Infinity Windows FAQ

Find our Marvin Infinity windows FAQ below. Here we’ll look at all of the common questions we get about Revere windows. If you have a question that isn’t answered we invite you to post a comment at the bottom to ask your question. We read all of the comments and will be happy to answer your question for everyone to see.

What are Marvin Infinity windows made of?

Marvin Infinity windows, now called Marvin Essentials, are made of fiberglass. Fiberglass is not the most popular window material for a variety of reasons. Fiberglass will tend to be more expensive than other options and they will often times have higher (worse) air infiltration rates than other window frame materials. Window salespeople can make picking a window style confusing. For more info find replacement window reviews here.

Are fiberglass windows better than vinyl windows?

No. Fiberglass windows are more expensive than vinyl windows, but not better. In addition to being more expensive, fiberglass windows will often times have higher (worse) air infiltration rates than you’ll see from a nicer vinyl window. So, the fiberglass windows are more expensive and less efficient.

A fiberglass window salesman might tell you that fiberglass windows are stronger or that they are less likely to have a seal failure. The strength argument doesn’t make a whole lot of sense as the windows are not holding up your house. All windows available today are as strong as they need to be to do their job.

The argument about seal failures, or expansion and contraction, is also suspect since the manufacturers don’t publish any real data. It seems that if this claim was really true they would show you real data to back it up. Since they don’t we have to assume this claim is all hot air.

Are Marvin fiberglass windows stronger than vinyl windows?

Yes, but it doesn’t really matter. The fiberglass window salesmen out there will make all sorts of claims about strength. They don’t tend to mention that it doesn’t make any difference. Imagine if we removed all of the windows from your house. The house won’t fall over. There is a point where windows are strong enough to do their job and making them stronger than that doesn’t provide any benefit. Doing that just adds to the cost.

That’s one reason fiberglass windows make up a very small percentage of the market. Most people pick vinyl windows because they are energy efficient, durable and cost effective.

What is the new name for Marvin Infinity windows?

Marvin Infinity windows are now called Marvin Essential windows. They use the same fiberglass construction.

Are Marvin Infinity and Marvin Essential windows the same?

Yes. Marvin changed the name of these windows from Infinity to Essential.

Are fiberglass windows drafty?

A property installed window should not be obviously drafty, but fiberglass windows will often have higher (worse) air infiltration rates than other window materials. Many fiberglass windows will let in 5x or 6x more air when closed and locked than a higher end vinyl window. That’s one reason that fiberglass windows are not the most popular choice.

Are fiberglass windows bad?

No, but they’re usually not as good as they’re cracked up to be. The downsides of fiberglass windows are that they’re more expensive and they’re less efficient than a nicer vinyl window.

The upside to a fiberglass window is that they can look very nice. If the look is worth the increased cost and decreased efficiency then fiberglass windows might be right for you. If not, then you might want to consider another option. Find more window reviews here.

Should you buy Marvin Essential windows?

I wouldn’t. Marvin Essential fiberglass windows are perfectly nice and they do look great. The increase in cost and increase in air infiltration that you get with these windows vs a nicer vinyl window just don’t make sense for most people. You can find replacement window reviews to find more info on these and other window options.

Is the Marvin fiberglass window warranty any good?

Not really. We’ve reviewed many window warranties and the Marvin fiberglass window warranty is not the best warranty you’ll see. The warranty on the insulated glass is 20 or 10 years depending on the size of the glass.

The warranty on the frames (or non-glass components) is only 10 years which is pretty short, especially considering the cost. For all of their talk about fiberglass being the best thing since sliced bread the warranty sure is surprising.

How much do Marvin Essential windows cost?

Marvin Essential windows are fiberglass windows which means they will cost more than other styles. The warranty is shorter and the air infiltration rates are higher than you’ll see from a nicer vinyl window which means these windows don’t always make the most sense.

Pricing will vary based on the options you pick and the nature of the installation. We would expect you’ll see fiberglass window pricing in the range of $1500 per window or more. You can find more info on 2022 replacement window prices here.

How long does it take to get Marvin windows?

Marvin windows are typically custom made to order so there will be a lead time that you’ll want to factor in to the timing of your project. We’ll expect to see Marvin windows taking 6-8 weeks to be ready but the actual timing can vary. You’ll want to talk to your dealer or installer to get info on the current timing. You can find more info on how long it takes to get windows in 2022 here.
