Historically Window World has been very focused on being cheap. That means they need to cut out costs that most window companies include. Window World is known for paying below market for installers. Do you have any reviews and opinions on swing & clean slider windows? What manufactureres make them?

    1. thewindowdog says:

Hi Stephen, I don’t think I have any reviews on swing and clean windows, but they’re not the most popular option out there. I worked for a window manufacturer years ago. We offered a swing and clean model and discontinued it because people weren’t happy with it and because it would sometimes hurt people. They called it the swing and sue around the plant. It seems it’s not simple for manufacturers to make a sliding window that also tilts in like a double hung.

If you’re considering an window like that be sure to look at the air infiltration rates. I know in the past models like that had higher than average air infiltration rates and that was one reason customers weren’t always happy with them.

More tycpial vinyl sliding windows that do not tilt in are still pretty easy to clean from the inside. You can just lift out the sash, clean it off, and pop it back in.

If you’re thinking about a swing and clean window so you can leave the sashes tilted in for more breeze, beware that they can fall out. We had cases where sashes fell out and hit people in the foot which is why it was called the swing and sue. If you want a window that opens all the way for ventilation you’ll probably be better off with a twin casement window. That style will cost a little more but it’ll seal better and it won’t fall out when you open it.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help out.
