BF Rich Windows Out of Business!

You heard it here first, BF Rich windows will cease operations immediately. They informed their customers and employees earlier this week that they will be closing their doors for good. We received this tip several days ago and waited to verify the information before publishing. It is certainly unfortunate news.

BF Rich Replacement Windows Reviews

As a business owner myself it’s not easy to talk about any company going out of business.  Their employees, suppliers and customers will surely be negatively impacted. The biggest challenge here will be for their customers with pending orders and their past customers whose warranties will likely be useless.

Folks bought these windows with the expectation of a lifetime warranty and they will likely not receive that benefit. Even worse, there may be folks with pending orders that can’t be filled.

We haven’t heard any news about how pending orders or future warranty claims will be handled. We’ll update this post with additional info if and when we receive it.

BF Rich was founded in 1957 and currently employs approximately 130 people in their window manufacturing facility in Delaware. They have a very long history in the industry. I know one of our installers in the area was a huge fan of their products and was frequently trying to get us to carry them in our retail stores.

Remember when folks ask us for recommendations of replacement windows we often talk about the risks associated with working with a small manufacturing company. Just in the last several years we’ve seen Gorell, Republic, Schuco, Kensington, Serious and BF Rich windows close their doors for good.

These companies often have great brochures and convincing salespeople. Unfortunately, they can’t help you when an issue like this arises.

Smaller window manufactures are faced with relatively high fixed costs in a very competitive business. When they’re faced with a slowdown in sales, the need to retool a plant or the expiration of certain credit facilities they can quickly find themselves in a bad situation with very few options.

I saw a comment from the VP of Sales at BF Rich windows saying that their troubles stemmed from the great recession of 2007. This likely means that they were unable to secure the financing they needed to maintain their business. In my experience most retail replacement window companies have fully recovered from the slowdown of that period.  That would mean their wholesale sales should have recovered, but there is probably more to the story.

Window manufacturers may still be feeling the effects do to the way their fixed costs, equipment and manufacturing facilities are financed. Many manufactures have also updated their product lines in recent years which is undoubtedly an expensive process. This means new designs, new tooling and much more. A company with limited financing options may not be able to make that investment in the business. That would cause them to have less competitive products, which would cause difficulty in attracting new customers and achieving much needed price increases.

It’s a shame to hear of a window manufacturer going out of business, but it’s likely to continue to happen. The industry is very fragmented and is undergoing a period of consolidation.

We’ll continue to report the industry news as we receive it and I’ll do my best to recommend products that are offered by companies that are likely to stand the test of time.

We thank the tipster who sent in this information and if you have any more info on this situation or anything else going on in the window industry please feel free to reach out to us at

  1. We have a new house with BFR windows. Several of them have failed and need servicing. Do you know of anyone who can repair them?

    1. I’ve heard that some of the old reps from BF Rich are working for another company and offering parts for the old BF Rich windows. I’ll send you an email with the contact info I have.

      1. I also have bf rich vinyl windows that are starting to fail. I need replacement balance coils and a few replacement sashes. Can you share the contact info that you mentioned previously?

        1. Unfortunately I don’t have it. They’re out of business so there may not be any great options.

      2. I also have BF Goodrich windows and have 4 that need repair because the seal is broken and we get moisture buildup. If you do know someone that is doing that type of repair on BF Goodrich windows I would appreciate the information.

        1. Since they’re out of business you’ll likely need to call a glass repair company or just replace the windows. Not great news, I know.

      3. I had replacement windows ready for delivery as they called just shortly before they went out of business. Of course they never got here. One window is now sweating while others have gas leaks in between the glass panes that look rather unsightly. How can I get my replacements that were ready and are in the shop.

        1. Unfortunately I think you’re probably out of luck. We see a lot of comments like that from folks who bought from companies who went out of business. When I suggest working with larger manufactures it’s based on comments like this. If you find a great solution let us know. I’m sure you’re not the only person in that boat.

      1. I think you’re at a dead end. They’re bankrupt. For customers considering a window project this is a good example of what happens when you buy from some of these small companies. I know it stinks to be out of luck, but that’s the unfortunate situation.

  2. I have a warranty on my windows. I don’t know how i’m going to get my broken window serviced. I did not receive any notification of the closing. That should have been set out to existing customers prior to them just rapidly closing.

    1. It certainly is inconvenient, but I’m sure the last thing their creditors wanted right before they closed their doors was a bunch of warranty claims. You’ll probably need a glass company to make a new glass unit.

  3. I also have BFRich windows that need a few minor repairs/parts. Anyone have information to help with this.

  4. We were a dealer of B F Rich and several of our customers windows have broken constant force balance systems, would you know where to get parts for the Cabernet window

  5. any update on where we can find parts and windows for bf rich windows. We have new construction with them installed in our new home a large bay window cracked and the contractor replaced it with a different product but because of the Argon content of the replaced window it looks green at night. I know all product was auctioned off but the auctioneer can not supply any information as to who may have windows and parts. Any help or information would be appreciated.

    1. Unfortunately I don’t think there is going to be a solution. You may be out of luck. If anyone chimes in with any info I’ll share it.

I was just talking with someone who wanted to work with a really small manufacturer and I suggested that was risky. He didn’t seem to appreciate the hassle that would be involved if they went away.

  6. I purchased my BFRICH windows about 10 years ago. I know the warranty is no good. I would just like to know who I could talk to about my window not staying open on its own. I was cleaning window, was told I didn’t lift window up high enough to bring in and knocked it out of whack.

  7. Five of my 20 B F Rich “Chateau Double Pane” windows are failing (2020). My installation contractor will not honor the lifetime warranty. I paid $9450 for these windows in 2013. Seven years later they are failing and I now get the opportunity to pay for their repairs…forever.

  8. Our “luxury” home builder used BF Rich windows in our home when we built in 2015. We have 37 windows total and more than half of them have broken seals. I guess BF Rich is the gift that keeps on giving.
