We need to replace some of our windows. They are very nice wood windows, 27 years old in Carmel, IN area. Do you have any recommendations as what type would be best as we have all wood trimming around the house. And what company do you recommend to work with?

Thank you for all the helpful info on your site.

We live in Terre Haute and are wanting to replace eight windows. We have had two companies come out and give us a quote, Window World and Renewal by Andersen. The two quotes went from $4,300 to $15,600. Do you have any suggestions of companies to use?

Boiler Up! I don’t really know anyone in Terre Haute, but my Dad went to school at Rose Hulman and I’ve been back there with him a couple times. It’s easy to get a good steak in Terre Haute!

I just about never think Renewal is worth the cost. Good luck with the project!

  2. Any recomendation for the New Albany area? America”s Window is a local company. Any info on them? Thank you!

  3. Scott Reed says:

Any recommendations for South Bend and if not, do you like any of the Simonton windows? They seem to be very popular up here! Thanks a lot!!

    1. thewindowdog says:

South Bend Indiana? I don’t know anyone in your area and you’re a little far from our store in Indianapolis. I’m not a huge fan of Simonton, try Angie’s List to find some local contractors and see what they recommend.

  4. Hello!

Looking to replace around 14 windows – crank outs. A couple of picture windows included. We had a rep from Anderson quote us their FiberX product (20 year parts and labor warranty) but after reading your reviews are a bit gun shy. Any other recommendations in the Fort Wayne area? Replacing 14 year old Pellas that are rotting.

    Thank you!

    1. thewindowdog says:

Unfortunately I don’t know anyone great in the Fort Wayne area to recommend. Have you found another option yet?

Want to put in new replacement windows in my house .I looking at mavin ultimate double hung next generation window or there magnum double hung replacement vs eagle replacement windows can give some reviews on this 3 windows i live in evansville indiana and about to to retire .i need a good window that will last for a long time

    1. thewindowdog says:

Those are all nice wood windows. If you’re getting wood windows I think either of those will do the trick. I’d give the warranties a good read over so you’ll know what you’ll be dealing with if there were a problem in 10 years. I see posts from folks all the time who are shocked to discover what was in their warranty after they have a problem. It would be a much better strategy to read the Andersen wood window warranty and the Marvin wood window warranty so you’re clear on what’s included and what’s not. Good luck with the project!

  6. Do you recommend anyone in the northwest Indiana area

    1. thewindowdog says:

We will be soon, but not quite yet. We’ll post about it when it’s ready.

I had a company out of Granger Indiana come out and quoted me 10,744 for 9 windows of Sunrise. One of then is 1,2,1 casement window. One picture window in garage three awning windows and 4 single casement would double hung be cheaper and is that a good price

  8. RICK HUTCHINS says:

Great site and great info for someone looking to replace windows. We have 11 to replace and live in Kokomo. I also went to Purdue and West Lafayette is not that far .. Any suggestions for our area or is that close enough for your company to be involved ?

  9. Amanda Atkison says:

I live in Mishawaka, just east of South Bend, and had a quote last week from Bee Windows for Sunrise windows. They had a black Friday sale for 52% off , “to keep their install crews busy over the winter.” I have 15 windows, one is a picture with a smaller double hung on either side, one is a fixed casement, the other 13 are double hung of varying sizes. The quote for Restorations with black frames outside, some wood grain inside, some white, came to over 14k. When I balked at that price with the discount, I was given the option of the Essentials line, which only come in plain white vinyl, for 11k. I have never purchased or priced windows before and wasn’t sure what to expect, but even with their “discount” the prices seemed high. Am I crazy or is 32k for these windows at full price just outrageous? They seemed like very good quality windows, but I just can’t bring myself to give the go ahead for this project. I told the salesman I needed time to look at my finances and think about it. There was no pressure, he was very professional and courteous. I can’t help but think if their prices are that high with that much of a discount that they may be way over priced. Would appreciate any thoughts on this or information on Bee Windows and their tactics.

    1. thewindowdog says:

You might not be surprised to learn that nobody ever pays the “regular” price. It’s a common move for companies to offer hugely inflated pricing and spacial discounts to make people feel like they’re getting a great deal. It’s not a discount, just the regular price with a story. They think that by setting the “regular” price really high people won’t complain about the actual prices. I’m sure it works sometimes but that’s why they do it.

If they tell you the windows are usually $1800 each and you’re lucky enough to get them for $900 that might sound like a deal. If they skip that step and just tell you the windows are $900 they think you’d be more likely to say that’s too expensive because they didn’t set the bar higher first. This is a funny business.

    2. Debra Walker says:

Stay away from Bee Windows. We had 20 windows replaced by them 3 years ago. We bought the Everwood Marvin Infinity brand. Gorgeous windows and our installers were great. But the owners were nightmares to deal with. It took over 5 months to get our windows installed. They did a poor job staining, measured wrong, couldn’t get all the products to us, delivered ripped screens. It was a horrible experience.

      1. thewindowdog says:

Hi Debra, I’m sorry to hear about your experience. Thanks for writing in and just let me know if there is anything we can do to help out in the future.

  10. Jay Scott says:

Any reccomendations in the South Bend / Mishawaka area?

    1. thewindowdog says:

Unfortunately I don’t know a great company to recommend in that area. It’s a little too far from my company in Indianapolis. Let us know if you find a great solution. I’m sure other readers will be interested.

  11. Donna Wright says:

Hi. We live about 22 miles south of Indianapolis. We have French doors that lead out to our deck. They are foggy due to condensation I believe. I have held back contacting anyone because I don’t know if that something that can be fixed or if the glass would have to be replaced. You never know when someone’s just trying to upsell rather than fix it. Do you have anyone in this area that is reputable they will not rip you off they will be honest and telling whether it can be replaced or fixed with a fair price ? I would appreciate any help you can provide. Thank you

  12. Can you recommend something in Evansville, In? We had a quote of $900 for an Earthwise picture window (94 x 52) made at the local American Window factory. This included the supposed $89 installation. Does this seem right? It seems a bit high to me, as I’ve been told repeatedly by multiple people that picture windows are cheaper to make.
