I am a contractor and engaged in a renovation project in Lexington in which the owner needs to reduce street noise substantially while significantly improving the efficiency of five of the windows (all single pane currently). This is a historic house and will require matching sashes to replace the existing sashes for preservation commission purposes. The windows to be replaced are roughly 36 x 36 and 36 x 42 for upper and lower sashes. The laminated glass would provide some extra measure of security and safety while reducing noise transmission. Dual-pane is the minimum glazing with clear glass (efficiency coatings are ok).
Hi Rik, yes sounds like double pane, clear glass with laminated glass will be the way to go. Most all wood window manufacturers will offer a package like that for that exact purpose so should be pretty easy for you to find. It’s not something my company offers in this area so I wouldn’t be able to help but it’s out there.
