Hello to the windowdog, thanks in advance for your opinion on my problem. Because of your web site I contacted window universe in Cleveland, Ohio about sliding doors and a quote on windows. I’ll try to make this short, I purchased 3 Okna sliders, 2 with intuition locks and laminate interior, 1 with shades and 1 plain white interior. The total was a little over 7000.00. I didn’t quibble over price and they did a good job, I even fed them and stayed out of their way. I had them quote me 21 windows at around 15000.00. I decided to do 8 widows across back and side with a promise to do the rest next year. The quote was about 6100.00, I complained and was given a 50.00 coupon and 125.00 Groupon gimmick. When I contacted them again he said they made a mistake on 4 windows not needing tempered glass but that was the best they could do. These are okna windows laminate interior and some need to be built out. My question to you is, does this sound right. As with all products I thought there would be a little more give on the price. I like the installers and the salesman Lance has been professional but the this is the price take it or leave it attitude galls me. What say you, thanks again

The way they price their products is different than the way many other companies operate. They could charge you $9000 for the 8 windows and then if you say no they could drop it to $7500 and if you still say no, Lance could call someone and then offer you $6000. You’d be seeing a huge discount from the original $9000, but the final price would be the same $6000. Why bother with all of that?
Instead, they offer you a great price right upfront with no hassle. I think it’s the best way to do business and it’s the way do business in my window companies as well. People do ask us for discounts all the time and I get it. The customers are used to seeing one price then another lower price then lower, etc. That’s not how Window Universe operates and it’s better for the customer. You get the final price right at the beginning saving hours of runaround.
If the price dropped 5 times before you bought what makes you think it wouldn’t have dropped 7 times if you’d kept saying no? In this case, you know you’re getting a great price because great prices are all they offer and you can save your negotiating skills for the used car lot. Hello again, first thanks so much for getting back to me. I hope I didn’t come across as a complainer but I really didn’t know their price was final, if he explained that to me I missed it. After reading your posts I was under the assumption that you thought okna was so so and I and others could do better hence I was not sure if I was getting a competitive price or not. I’m still on the fence, the doors seem well built to me. Windows you tell me.

I think some of the Okna windows are perfectly nice. The 600 series that they offer in Cleveland is a good performer. Some dealers who are out there charging $1200 per window for basic windows are part of the reason I may urge caution, but I know those guys at Window Universe and I know how the do business. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to a friend of mine.
In fact my brother-in-law’s parents live on the East side and they’ll be getting new windows from Window Universe soon.
Do they offer Provia windows or something comparable to the Provia Endure series?

Hi Rich, are you in the northeast Ohio area? If so I can make a great recommendation. Sunrise makes perfectly fine windows, but I haven’t been a huge fan of their company for a few reasons.
What are the reasons your not happy with company
I had a bad window installation in the cleveland area. So i have new windows that poorly installed. Going to work with the company to get it resolved but if that fails – are there any companies that you would recommend in the Cleveland area that would properly install poorly installed replacement windows?
