Love your site as I am now in the market for windows and stumbled on it.

I live in Virginia Beach and am an Angie’s List member. I have seen good reviews from Custom Home Improvements, Beach Windows and Siding, and Window World, to name a few. Are there any other companies you personally know and can recommend here?

I have 10 windows which are currently all double pane, double hung vinyl and live on a busy street where the car noise and people talking comes through. My current windows are not that thick between the panes and I don’t believe there is a low E coat on them (5 of my windows are south/southwestward facing). I have read that laminate will help reduce the noise, but by how much? The quotes I’m receiving are $250-$285 more per window for the laminate.

The windows quoted ao far are Lansing 40 Series (Atrium 8300 I believe) for $5,700 ($2,500 more with laminate on all windows), Okna Insul-Tech for $4,850 ($2,850 more with laminate on all 10 windows), and still waiting on Window World sales rep to come out which sells the 4000 series and is an Alside product I believe.

All these companies’ windows are low E glass, argon filled, double pane, double hung vinyl with a half screen and include install with vinyl coated aluminium wrap and lifetime warranties on windows and labor.

Lansing 40 Series has multi-pocket vinyl chambers with an Aluminum reinforced frame inside the vinyl, and the Okna Insultech and Window World 4000 are just multi-pocket vinyl but can have foam filled inside the vinyl frame for an additional cost (the Okna Insultech quote for $4,850 has the foam in it).

Are these decent prices for the product, install, and lifetime warranty?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

I know I see the Beach Windows and Siding commercials on TV when I’m in the area, but I don’t really know any companies well enough to recommend. I would love to find a great company in Virginia Beach as my company doesn’t offer anything there and we do get inquiries all the time. It sounds like you’re in a reasonable ballpark for the prices. Laminated does add a bit to the cost. Often times people will just do the windows in the bedroom or on one side of the house with laminated glass and skip it on the rest. That seems to work pretty well.

If you find a great company be sure to let us know. You’re not the only reader in the area looking for a great company and I would love to have someone to recommend.

  2. Please add Charlottesville, Va. We have a lot of homes here and several window replacement companies. We could use some advice! My head is spinning from reading all about replacement windows since 5am.

    Thanks

Have just started my replacement window research around Roanoke, VA area for 17 single glass frame windows. Read through your information and almost at the point to better sell the house and move elsewhere then deal with window replacement! Not looking for contractor grade nor the bells and whistles, just a decent quality affordable replacement window installed by an honest and reliable company. Have not seen any ratings for Sunrise or Senerity Windows. Any suggestions on where to start? Lots of options out there. Thanks.

It can be fun if you let it! My company doesn’t operate in Roanoke yet and I don’t know anyone there to recommend so I’m not much help. Read the sales tactics section to get an idea of what to watch out for. Good luck!

      1. We’re in the Roanoke area as well. Cash in hand & ready to purchase windows for a 5,000 sq ft home. So far I haven’t found ANY I’m impressed. Pella was a huge letdown. The salesman tried to change the contract terms the day we were due to sign.

We’re being told we need new construction windows since the builder grade windows made by M&W currently on the 20 year old home are rotting. Is this true? And what window would YOU choose for YOUR home?

        1. thewindowdog says:

Hi Mary, unfortunately I don’t know anyone in Roanoke to recommend. It is possible that a new construction window could be a good choice for your project. It’s hard to tell without seeing the windows. If you find a great local company let us know. I’m sure you’re not the only person in the area looking for someone.

  4. I need window repair for 4 windows ( they wont stay open and fall shut) I got put in in 2010 so am sure they are in warranty but cant remember who put them in. Are there good honest repair companies near woodbridge , VA? the home is in 22026- Dumfries, VA. Any referral will help.

  5. Lexi Green says:

My husband and I were thinking about starting some window replacement in our home but we are concerned about the budget needed to take on such a project. We have 6 windows that are wood and they are double hung with a full screen. We wanted to get a potential quote on replacing them with vinyl. So that said, what would be the potential cost of doing 6 double hungs with full screens, double paned and NO grids? The size of these windows are 32×36.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

    1. thewindowdog says:

Hi Lexi, I can probably help by getting you a copy of some window pricing. What is your zip code so I can direct you to the best info?
