North Star windows is the largest vinyl window manufacturer in Ontario. If you’re looking for North Star windows reviews you’ve come to the right place.

I should note that my company doesn’t do business in Canada (yet) so I don’t have a whole lot of experience with North Star windows myself. In looking over the features and options they seem to be very typical.

They advertise screens that are easy to remove and super spacer between the panes of glass. These are pretty typical features down here in the lower 48 so not really anything to get too excited about. That said the products are perfectly fine, but not too remarkable.

Is the North Star Windows warranty any good?

Compared with window warranties commonly found in the states I’d say the North Star warranty is pretty typical. It’s a transferable lifetime warranty with a few exceptions. For example the window hardware is covered for life but the patio door hardware is only covered for 5 years.

Also, there’s no glass breakage coverage and to transfer the warranty you need to pay a fee.

It is a nice feature that the North Star warranty covers labor to replace the defective part. You don’t get that from every manufacturer.

If you are going to make a claim they want to you to do so within 30 days of discovery. That’s something to be aware of when filling out their warranty forms.

What colors are available for North Star windows?

North Star offers a pretty common color palette for exterior window colors.

If you’re thinking about adding an exterior color to your window order you should note a couple important details. First, the exterior colors will add a decent amount to the cost. Next, the warranty on the exterior finishes is much shorter.

The white vinyl color will have the best price and the best warranty, but if you need a different color there are plenty of options.

We always suggest looking at actual color samples rather than digital representations before placing an order.

What are the drawbacks of North Star windows?

Here you can see the pocket sill design of the North Star windows and that’s a bit of an older design. Most window manufactures in the US have moved away form this style because it typically doesn’t seal as well.

You can see in the picture above that there is a pocket that the sash fits down into when it is closed. The salespeople tell you that makes the window more efficient but the opposite is often true. The pocket sill can fill with water which means it needs drain holes or weep holes that drain to the outside.

These drainage holes will often allow air back in. Windows with this style of sill usually have higher air infiltration rates than other styles. It’s just an older design that most manufacturers we deal with are moving away from.

This isn’t the end of the word. I’d suggest comparing the efficiency ratings, including the air infiltration rate, to see how these compare with other options that you are considering.

What’s the bottom line in North Star Windows reviews?

Based on the info we have I’d say North Star makes a decent, but not particularly exceptional product. If you’ve received a quote for North Star windows and everything seems great you’ll probably be happy with them. However, if you weren’t thrilled with the salesman or the price or anything else then I’d look for another option.

There are no features of these windows that you can’t find elsewhere.
