  1. We would like to be listed as one of your best window companies. Since 1952 Our family has delivered 5 star personal service to each and every client from every initial in home visit with the owners, to our zero high pressured sales , right down to tour personal approach with having the very same owner show up the morning of every installation to introduce our crews, walk them through the job and stay all day to over see, not supervise, because our guys already know what they are doing. They are the very best. We stay to over see the installation and reassure our clients they are in the best of hands should something come up throughout the day. we believe for the last 63 years that personal service is the only way to do business.

I’m looking to replace a few windows in my home located in Chicago with the Simonton Assure line. Can anyone recommend a place to help sell and install these for me? I’ve received one quote already, but want to see what else may be out there. Thank you for your assistance with this!

  2. Linda Fitzgerald says:

We are in the Chicagoland area and we are looking to replace 24 double hung and 3 picture windows. I we have received quotes from the following (all are between $17K – $20K):
    – Allside Mezzo
    – Simonton 6100 and 6500 (through Home Depot)
    – Craftsman 70
    – Pella – Encompass series
    – Advanced Window Seria 6300
    – Kensington Vinyl
Do you have any recommendations on which to go with?

    1. thewindowdog says:

Have you checked with our recommended company in Chicago? I know they carry Alside windows and I think you’ll prefer them over the other models you mentioned. Let me know if we can help out.

      1. I’m in Rockford,IL apparently you don’t do Rockford?

  3. Hello, We are looking to replace 22 casement windows, an eyebrow window and a sliding door. We had anderson out and their price was rediculous. We had a company selling preservation windows out and they want 15,500. We had a third company selling sunrise out and they want 22,000 which seems steep. Looking for advise. They are casement energymaxx 4 elite or sunrise 8 layer coating. Salesman claims the sunrise rep went to bat for use and will upgrade to the 12 coating glass.

    1. thewindowdog says:

Ha, he went to bat for you. I love the way some salespeople talk. The Sunrise windows are perfectly nice. I don’t think I see why they would be $7000 nicer. You could buy a fun motorcycle with your savings! If you can’t clearly see a reason to spend $7000 extra then there’s no need to do it. I’d ask him what makes those windows $7000 nicer. If the answer makes sense to you then go for it, and if it sounds like more salesman jargon then you can probably skip it.

      1. Cynthia Morgan says:

I had Renewal by Anderson come to my house for a quote; for four windows the cost was $8000.00. Needless to say I’m shopping around.

  6. Hi, I’m looking for a window installer in north east Illinois,at the Wisconsin border. Your Illinois recommendation looks like they service burbs west of Chicago. Any recommendations? I want to replace a triple double hung window with a bay window.
    Very educational window site!

  7. What do you feel about companies that don’t itemize a quote. I got a quote for 11 windows and 3 sliding glass doors. When I asked for an itemized quote, I was told they don’t do that.

  8. Darin Hinderman says:

Just following up on the Peoria Area for a reputable installer. We are confused. We need 17 double hung windows installed and are getting quotes from a low of $17k for Pella 250 to $25K for Target Vinyl. Any help would be appreciated.

  9. Steve Graess says:

Looking at Softlite Imperial LS all white vinyl replacements (7 double hung – 1 of 44″x69″, 3 of 35″x69″, and 3 of 28″ x 69″) getting cost for install of around $1000/window. Does this seem right? Are there comparable windows and good installers you know of for north side of Chicago? Any suggestions appreciated.

  10. I purchased 9 Okna Starmark 900 triple pane back in 2017. Ice crystals and cloudiness formed between the glass in a couple–(not all)—9 of the windows during the dead of winter. The weather here in Chicago is nicer outside now and neither are issues at this point. The dealer that installed the windows went out of business shortly after the installation. Okna sent a rep a couple of weeks back and he said this is normal. He claims if it was a seal failure the cloudiness would be constant. This does not sit well with me cause I’m asking if this is normal, why did not happen with the other seven windows. Does Okna’s explanation makes sense or is there issues here? I’m obviously not a window person and just need some assurance as I am in the process of purchasing other windows again for another property. Okna no longer carries the 900 series as it was replaced with the Starmark Evo, which is an entirely different window. This means Okna would have to switch out the class on premise and could not the sash if this was in fact a seal failure. Any thoughts?

    1. thewindowdog says:

That explanation could make sense. It could easily depend on environmental factors. For example, all of your windows don’t get the same amount of sun or the same amount of moisture. The windows in the bathroom get more moisture than the others, the windows on the sunny side of the house get more sun.

It is true that a seal failure would likely be evident all year long so if you don’t see any issue now I wouldn’t worry too much about it. If you have a problem next winter just take a picture or a video of it and call them back.

  11. Diane Abramowitz says:

We need to replace the original 1950s steel Pella casement windows in our living room and dining room. We are in the north end of Chicago(Evanston/Skokie/Linconwood border us), but not in the service area of L.J. Neal & Sons. I’m a bit concerned about the expertise needed to remove the original windows as well as getting the right window replacement. If you have any advice, I’m all ears. I appreciate all the info you provide on your site.

  12. HEATHER WARNER says:

Help!!! I am located in Central Illinois near Decatur. We are looking to replace 10 windows, 2 entry doors and a slider. Renewal by Anderson quoted us over $28k and that just seems crazy to me especially since we don’t plan to stay in the house forever. After doing some online research I am having a hard time finding options in my small neck of the woods. We have a local company but they only sell Polaris and after reading the reviews on this site I am less than impressed. Our other choice would seem to be Window World. Which is a better choice?

    1. We would be happy to help if you are still in the market. Please contact our office at 630-929-6190

  13. Nial Johnson says:
