Energex Window Systems is a little bit of an unusual window company. They’re a network of small independent window manufacturers that get together to produce windows under a common brand. In general I think that’s a bad idea and I’ll tell you why.

This replacement window manufacturing strategy isn’t completely unique. We’ve seen other companies doing it. Earthwise, and Alliance Window Systems are two that come to mind. I’m not a huge fan of this strategy as I think it’s bad for the customer. You can see from the comments on the Earthwise post that their salespeople don’t always love my opinions so feel free to make your own decision.

Why are Energex Window Systems windows bad for the customer (in my opinion)?

It’s about the business model, not the windows themselves. If a salesman was showing you Energex windows you probably don’t even know which company is actually making them.

There are 7 manufacturers that make these products. They’re independent companies and any one of them could vanish tomorrow. If the company that happened to make your Energex windows happened to disappear you’ll likely have a very hard time dealing your warranty.

Have you heard of any of them? They may be fine companies but there also could be problems. You probably have no idea, that’s why it’s a risky bet.

What about the Energex window warranty?

I’m always a little concerned when you can’t even find the window warranty on the website. When we get ready to write the review of the Energex window warranty we’ll contact them to ask for a copy and we’ll see what they send. For now, just know that the risk in working with these small manufacturers is real.

What’s the bottom line?

For now lets say the jury’s still out. The products are perfectly fine. There’s nothing wrong with the windows themselves. It’s just risky to buy windows from a company like this and I don’t see any reason to take that gamble. If you’re thinking of buying new windows you may want to look elsewhere.

How can you find a great window company?

When shopping for windows I do always suggest finding a great installation company before you fall in love with any particular window model. There are plenty of great window options out there but not as many local companies that are great to work with.
