Marvin Infinity Windows FAQ

marvin infinity window

Find our Marvin Infinity windows FAQ below. Here we’ll look at all of the common questions we get about Revere windows. If you have a question that isn’t answered we invite you to post a comment at the bottom to ask your question. We read all of the comments and will be happy to answer your question for everyone to see.

What are Marvin Infinity windows made of?

Marvin Infinity windows, now called Marvin Essentials, are made of fiberglass. Fiberglass is not the most popular window material for a variety of reasons. Fiberglass will tend to be more expensive than other options and they will often times have higher (worse) air infiltration rates than other window frame materials. Window salespeople can make picking a window style confusing. For more info find replacement window reviews here.

Are fiberglass windows better than vinyl windows?

No. Fiberglass windows are more expensive than vinyl windows, but not better. In addition to being more expensive, fiberglass windows will often times have higher (worse) air infiltration rates than you’ll see from a nicer vinyl window. So, the fiberglass windows are more expensive and less efficient.

A fiberglass window salesman might tell you that fiberglass windows are stronger or that they are less likely to have a seal failure. The strength argument doesn’t make a whole lot of sense as the windows are not holding up your house. All windows available today are as strong as they need to be to do their job.

The argument about seal failures, or expansion and contraction, is also suspect since the manufacturers don’t publish any real data. It seems that if this claim was really true they would show you real data to back it up. Since they don’t we have to assume this claim is all hot air.

Are Marvin fiberglass windows stronger than vinyl windows?

Yes, but it doesn’t really matter. The fiberglass window salesmen out there will make all sorts of claims about strength. They don’t tend to mention that it doesn’t make any difference. Imagine if we removed all of the windows from your house. The house won’t fall over. There is a point where windows are strong enough to do their job and making them stronger than that doesn’t provide any benefit. Doing that just adds to the cost.

That’s one reason fiberglass windows make up a very small percentage of the market. Most people pick vinyl windows because they are energy efficient, durable and cost effective.

What is the new name for Marvin Infinity windows?

Marvin Infinity windows are now called Marvin Essential windows. They use the same fiberglass construction.

Are Marvin Infinity and Marvin Essential windows the same?

Yes. Marvin changed the name of these windows from Infinity to Essential.

Are fiberglass windows drafty?

A property installed window should not be obviously drafty, but fiberglass windows will often have higher (worse) air infiltration rates than other window materials. Many fiberglass windows will let in 5x or 6x more air when closed and locked than a higher end vinyl window. That’s one reason that fiberglass windows are not the most popular choice.

Are fiberglass windows bad?

No, but they’re usually not as good as they’re cracked up to be. The downsides of fiberglass windows are that they’re more expensive and they’re less efficient than a nicer vinyl window.

The upside to a fiberglass window is that they can look very nice. If the look is worth the increased cost and decreased efficiency then fiberglass windows might be right for you. If not, then you might want to consider another option. Find more window reviews here.

Should you buy Marvin Essential windows?

I wouldn’t. Marvin Essential fiberglass windows are perfectly nice and they do look great. The increase in cost and increase in air infiltration that you get with these windows vs a nicer vinyl window just don’t make sense for most people. You can find replacement window reviews to find more info on these and other window options.

Is the Marvin fiberglass window warranty any good?

Not really. We’ve reviewed many window warranties and the Marvin fiberglass window warranty is not the best warranty you’ll see. The warranty on the insulated glass is 20 or 10 years depending on the size of the glass.

The warranty on the frames (or non-glass components) is only 10 years which is pretty short, especially considering the cost. For all of their talk about fiberglass being the best thing since sliced bread the warranty sure is surprising.

How much do Marvin Essential windows cost?

Marvin Essential windows are fiberglass windows which means they will cost more than other styles. The warranty is shorter and the air infiltration rates are higher than you’ll see from a nicer vinyl window which means these windows don’t always make the most sense.

Pricing will vary based on the options you pick and the nature of the installation. We would expect you’ll see fiberglass window pricing in the range of $1500 per window or more. You can find more info on 2022 replacement window prices here.

How long does it take to get Marvin windows?

Marvin windows are typically custom made to order so there will be a lead time that you’ll want to factor in to the timing of your project. We’ll expect to see Marvin windows taking 6-8 weeks to be ready but the actual timing can vary. You’ll want to talk to your dealer or installer to get info on the current timing. You can find more info on how long it takes to get windows in 2022 here.
